Psychmatch receives ACT women’ grant

3 July 2020

We’re pleased to announce Psychmatch is a successful recipient of the ACT Government’s 2019-20 Women’ Participation Grant.

Psychmatch’s Co-Founder and CEO Kim Hicks stated ‘this is great recognition of the important change we are trying to affect. We know in mental health one size does not fit all - a good working relationship or therapeutic alliance has a significant impact on treatment outcomes.”

Psychmatch is an early stage social enterprise that connects clients and psychologists using a matching algorithm that predicts the effectiveness of the working relationship to help improve treatment outcomes.

Kim Hicks goes on to say “lack of comparable information means finding the ‘right’ psychologist can be hard. Some won’t know what ‘right’ is and for the large part, there’s no systematic screening and selection before getting a referral anyways. For many people, this can lead to subpar treatment outcomes, having to cycle through several psychologists or dropping out of treatment all together.”

“While good mental health is essential to the overall health of both men and women, women experience some mental health conditions at higher rates than men, particularly depression at 11.6% for women compared with 9.1% for men in 2017-18.”

This grant will go towards setting up a pilot program connecting clients particularly women with psychologists using Psychmatch’s algorithm to predict the effectiveness of the working relationship.
